My formal education includes a Certificate in Commercial Art which I completed shortly after leaving school and a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Multimedia which I completed as a mature student. I now run my own Multimedia business specialising in Kiosk Touchscreen Interface design and website design.
Although I engage in many aspects of multimedia work my passion is educational animation for young children. I create my own characters and artwork for these animations and find this an interesting complement to my Multimedia and artwork. A recent digital project is the completion of a series of Australiana giftwrap. This giftwrap series incorporates Australian native animals and flora but using soft pastels in contrast to the strong colours of the Australian bush. I will be launching this range commercially in the near future.
I was born in Mombasa, Kenya, a beautiful tropical island off the coast of East Africa. I was very fortunate to spend the first 17 years of my life living in this beautiful country, first in the coastal region and later inland. My father an avid sports diver and wildlife enthusiast instilled in me my love of nature and an affinity for the natural world - a love which has stayed with me and still influences my life and art today.
In the 1990’s I moved to Australia, to the South East Queensland area where I ran a Native Animal rehabilitation and release project from my property. The property bordered a wildlife corridor which was a perfect release site for the ringtail possums and sugar gliders which were rehabilitated and released. During this period I was able to interact with and study a large variety of Australian wildlife at close range, not only the creatures that we were rehabilitating, but a wide variety of other native wildlife who visited the property. It was during this period that my interest in art was rekindled and I began painting wildlife again.
Prior to moving to Australia, I lived in the Caribbean for a couple of years working part-time as a silk artist. This period spent working with textiles created a keen interest in textures which I am now increasingly incorporating as backgrounds into my artwork. In the natural world interesting textures exist everywhere and reflect a creature’s environment - an important feature which I feel necessary to include in my wildlife portraits.
I share my time between creating on canvas and creating virtually on a computer.
