WORKSHOP

Lino Stencil Fabric Printing

My Dragonfly Print

I haven't done any lino cuts in an very long time so this workshop was a lot of fun for me to take part in.

The workshop facilitator, Helen Bradshaw is a local visual artist, originally from Zimbabwe. Helen has a Visual arts degree and was involved for many years in the print industry designing patterns. She is now giving workshops and is currently organising one week creative holidays to Tonga including lino stencil print workshops. As a fellow African she is very inspired by primitive artwork and patterns.

I was inspired by a painting of dragonflies that I found in one of the books at the workshop (provided for inspiration!) and added a basic border to one length of the triangular lino print.

I am not sure that I would use a triangular print for this type of design again as it can be difficult to get even repeats. However, when I had completed the scarf I was surprised at how well the triangular design had worked and how it has added another level of dimension to the overall design. The photograph below shows the lino print and part of the printed scarf.
