This work uses the shape of a marine protozoa (see image below) to create the mangrove tree and it underwater roots.
The mangrove tree is a symbol of protection for air breathing creatures that make their home in the wetlands. Its roots serve as a nursery and home for wetland water creatures.
The leaves fall from the tree into the water to complete the cycle of connectedness and inter-dependence.
A folk art style of painting was chosen to emphasise simplicity and vibrancy for this theme.
